On June 29th, 2007 iPhone was first launched in the United States by Apple unknowing about its unprecedented success in upcoming years.
Since its launch, iPhone has revolutionized the smartphones market, and over the decade, has become the highest selling smartphone. On its 10th anniversary on Thursday in United States, Apple has released the data which shows that Apple has approximately sold over 1.2 billion iPhones, which accounts to a total of $738 billion USD. On this astonishing success of iPhone, Apple current CEO Tim Cook said that iPhone company’s flagship smartphone had created history and became world-changing and “one of the most successful product in the history of smartphones.”
He further said that while creating this product they were not thinking about its success, but they were determined to design best devices – something unique about Apple that sets it apart from the its competitors.
Being the flagship product of Apple, iPhone has turned out to be the most profitable device for Apple. Over the past 10 years, if we look only into the profit stats of this product, it has approximately accumulated near to 100 billion which is a significant portion of the overall profit of Apple: about $256 billion.
The sale of iPhones has increased every year. According to sale statistics in 2011, Apple sold 100 million of phones, 200 million in 2012, 500 million in 2013, and 1 billion in 2016.
