The new HTC smartphone is set to make waves in the technology industry later this year. That is not because it is codenamed “Ocean Life”, but rather because of the incredible features, it will be packing.

According to leaked information on Twitter, the HTC U11 Life smartphone, as it will formally be known, will form part of the manufacturer’s U-range which already include the U Play and U Ultra.

Considering that the HTC U11 Life will be a mid-range smartphone, the specifications look to be rather impressive. Similar to the HTC U Play, the new U11 Life will feature a 16-megapixel camera on both the back and front of the phone along with a 5.2-inch/ 1080 x 1920 pixel full HD display. What’s more, the U11 Life will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 660 SoC.

Mid-Range. Really?

Boasting a 2,600mAh battery, the Ocean Life with also have the latest Bluetooth 5.0 support. In addition, you can expect to receive the latest version of Android- 7.1.1 Nougat as standard with this mid-range smartphone. This smartphone is set to top the mid-range division, being a head and shoulders above its predecessor, the HTC U Play.

Additionally, the Ocean Life will include features as seen in the other U-range smartphones. Users can expect the USonic, HTC’s USB Type-C headphones in place of a 3.5mm audio jack.

Snapdragon 660 Chipset

The successor of Qualcomm’s 653 model, the 660 version has some notable changes. Firstly, the Snapdragon 660 features a much more efficient 14nm node compared to the old 28nm process. Secondly, they have introduced Kryo 260 cores in the latest processor.

Not much information is available regarding the makings of the Kryo 260 core, but it is speculated to be similar to the license used for the Kryo 280- Built on ARM Cortex Technology. Also to be speculated is some in-house tweaks and custom silicon layout.

What is confirmed, however, is that Kryo 260 will come in a 4+4 octa-core arrangement, with four larger cores at 2.2GHz and 1MB of L2 cache.

What does all this techy-talk mean for consumers? Well, the Snapdragon 660 will offer improved support for the dual camera hardware as well as enhanced capabilities for image processing. These capabilities include depth mapping, eye tracking, optical zoom and Clear Sight sensor arrangements.

Qualcomm has increased their focus on heterogeneous computer and machine learning capabilities to ensure efficient completion of tasks. In addition, the battery life is something to get excited about, with the Snapdragon 660 offering up to 2 hours extra battery life when compared with the previous system, the 653.

Edge Sense Technology

This flagship smartphone, the U11 debuted the all new and unique Edge Sense technology. This new age feature allows smartphone users to squeeze the sides of the phone to perform certain functions.

These shortcut functions can be customized to the users’ preference, to launch the camera for example or Google Assistant. Sensors on the sides of the smartphone will be able to register user input which includes the intensity with which the phone is squeezed, which is also customizable. The new U11 Life is rumored to feature Edge Sense 9.0.

Android 7.1.1 Nougat

The latest version of Android, Nougat, is proving to be the sweetest yet. With a whole new set of Emojis, it allows the user to speak their mind.

This version of the OS has made switching between apps, much easier with a simple double-tap. In addition, Nougat is equipped with an awesome VR mode to transport you to a whole new world.

What to Expect Next?

It is speculated that the ‘Ocean Life’ model may be the younger sibling of the flagship model of the UTC smartphone. This means that we could possibly expect an even great product from HTC when the U11 officially launches.

It is important to note that this is all based on speculation from some leaked information. It is best that we do not get too carried away and expect too much before the smartphone is officially introduced to the public.

The official release date has not yet been announced, nor what the new smartphone will retail for to the public.
