Sonos announced its new voice-controlled smart speaker called “The Sonos One” at the price of $249 CAD. The device launched globally on October 24.

The smart speaker will be available in two different colors that will include Black and White with support for Amazon Alexa within the box. However, support for Google Assistant and Apple AirPlay 2 will be included early in 2018.

According to the company, the extended support for AirPlay 2 on the “Sonos One” will let Siri take control over music on Sonos speakers and also let the smart speaker to stream videos as well as movies from any iOS device.

Ahead of the launch date, existing users in the UK, US and Germany will be able to control the device via Amazon Alexa with the help of an upcoming software update. However, till now the support for Amazon Alexa for Canadian users has not been provided yet.

Those who purchase the new Sonos One will also be benefitted with smart pairing feature as the new speaker will work seamlessly with other existing Sonos speakers and let users to wirelessly pair two speakers to boost sound quality. One can also link two speakers to PLAYBAR or PLAYBASE to experience home theatre surround sound.

Here is what company says about “The Sonos One” – The voice capture technology with echo cancellation will let the speaker hear your voice over music, so when you speak, music will automatically lower volume. A light on the speaker will clearly be illumined if the microphone is on or off.” The company also mentioned that their speakers will now support over 80 streaming services that include Apple Music, and Tidal as well as Pandora to be added in coming months. Some other like Audible, Kuke Music and iHeartRadio are set to arrive in 2018.

 

Sonos One comes with one tweeter, two Class-D amplifiers, and one mid-woofer, in order to go with a six-mic array as well as adaptive noise suppression algorithm to focus the sound of the person who is commanding the speaker.

Recently, Sonos also updated its Sonos iOS app and shares news about the company’s developer program that will open up in 2018 to provide other developers an opportunity to build on the Sonos Sound Platform
