Leaked: Xiaomi Note 5A Specifications! Could it be Announced Alongside the Redmi Note 5?
Since the leak that Xiaomi is working on a successor to the Note 4, fans are waiting with bated breath for the release of the much-anticipated Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. What could make this situation more exciting? Rumors of a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A, perhaps?
Information leaked in July, detailing the specifications of the new Note 5. More recently, rumors arose that Xiaomi is working on a toned-down version of the new smartphone.
The questions that everyone is asking include “will the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A be announced at the same time as the Note 5?”, and “what specifications will it feature? Thanks to some leaked information about these two smartphones, we can speculate as to what is about to hit the market from Xiaomi.
Expectations of the Note 5
Leaked images of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 show that it consists of a metal unibody, that is a gold-colored casing. In terms of display, the Note 5 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels.
The Note 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 or 660, 64-bit Octa-core processor with an Adreno 508 GPU. The operating system will be Android’s latest version 7.1.1 Nougat together with the yet-to-be-released MIUI 9.
The connectivity specifications include support of USB Type-C 3.1, Quick Charge 4.0 and Bluetooth 5. The smartphone will also feature a fingerprint sensor below the display which can double up as a home button.
The camera specifications are not to be sneezed at with a 16-megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and a 13-megapixel front camera.
Xiaomi’s Note 5 is expected to come with 16Gb built-in storage and a 3790mAh non-removable battery. Rumors have surfaced that the Note 5 will come with some variants.
These include the higher-end MDE6S and MDT6S, which will be powered by Snapdragon 625 SoC with 3 GB and 4GB RAM variants. Other variants include 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage, 4GB RAM with 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage.
The Note 5 smartphone is expected to be available for purchase from August 21 and will retail for approximately US$200 for the basic variant of the anticipated smartphone.
Rumors of the Note 5A
Recently leaked specifications suggest that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A will be a more budget-friendly smartphone, compared to the Note 5. It is suspected to retail at around US$150.
The Note 5A is expected to feature a similar-sized display, but a slightly less dense display with HD resolution instead. The 5-inch display will have a 720×1280 pixels resolution.
Tipped to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 1.4GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM, the Note 5A will include 16GB’s of built-in memory. As with the Note 5, the Note 5A will run on Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, together with MIUI 9.
Camera-wise, the Note 5A will feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, as well as a 5-megapixel snapper in the front, which is ideal for selfies and video chatting.
It is speculated that the Xiaomi Note 5A will carry a 3080mAh battery. This will mean that the Note 5A’s battery life will not quite match that of the Note 5. The Note 5A is said to weigh in at around 150 grams and measure 153×76.2×7.59mm
How do They Compare?
The major differences between the Note 5 and the Note 5A will predominantly be experienced in terms of performance and battery life, given that the Note 5 will feature a superior processor and larger battery.
Additionally, the Note 5 wins in terms of built-in memory too. Both smartphones are, however, suspected to feature a memory card slot for additional storage.
All these differences can be expected based on the retail value of the smartphone which is also a point of discussion. The Note 5A, expected to retail at US$150, was designed as a more budget-friendly version of the Note 5, which is anticipated to retail at US$200.
Since this information is based on leaked specifications, it is difficult to truly compare the two models and know exactly what to expect from Xiaomi later in August.
