A quite resourceful and determined lady was caught trying to smuggle 102 iPhones strapped all around her body on a flight traveling to mainland China. This flight was directly coming from Hong Kong.
A local press nicknamed the lady as “Female Iron Man”. The lady was caught after the customs officials in Guangdong province city Shenzhen observed some suspicious bulges on her body and then pulled the lady out for a search. Apart from this, officials also noticed that the woman was wearing more clothes than the average person considering the extremely hot weather in that region.
After separating the woman and investigating her, the officials found 15 luxury watches and 102 iPhone devices that weighed about 44lbs in total. The complete value of smartphones the lady was carrying was estimated to be $125,845 CAD.
The reason behind smuggling iPhones into China is because iPhones are much cheaper in Hong Kong compared to that in mainland China. Therefore, smuggling iPhones is very profitable.
One similar incident took place in 2015 where a man attempted to smuggle close to 146 iPhones. Recently in June, an employee at a Samsung Company South Korean was arrested for stealing more than 8,000 smartphones.
