Huawei Mate 10 vs Mate 10 Pro: What are the Differences?
After quite a wait that latest phablets are finally here. Get ready for Huawei’s newest offering: the Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro.
They both feature some great functionality in the form of awesome power, dual-lens cameras, and AI smarts. These smartphones do differ quite substantially, however.
Let’s break it down and take a look at where they are similar and their major differences.
While the overall design is pretty similar in case of both the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, they have very slight differences in the design department. A sleek glass back is accompanied by curved side, and the main attraction: a reflective band that draws your attention to the dual-lens camera.
The Mate 10 Pro boasts a slimmer and longer design (154.2mm x 74.5mm x 7.9mm) that is a bit lighter at 178g. In comparison, the Mate 10 is 150.5mm x 77.8mm x 8.2mm and weighs 186g.
Both phones are available in a wide variety of colors, although some colors differ between the phones. Additionally, it is worth noting that the Pro comes with an IP67 certification as dust and water resistant.
This difference may surprise you, but the Mate 10 trumps the Mate 10 Pro in this department, with a higher quality screen resolution, even though the Pro has a larger display.
The Mate 10’s pixel density is 449 PPI (pixels per inch) with a 5.9-inch 1,440 x 2,560 display. The Mate 10 Pro, on the other hand, has a 6.0-inch 1,808 x 2,160 display with a 402 PPI.
The Pro makes up for this by using OLED with an awesome contrast ration, while the Mate 10 only uses LED in the display. In terms of aspect ratio, the phone differs with the Mate 10 offering a conventional 16:9 ratio and the Pro boasting a wide-screen ratio of 18:9.
When it comes to the similarities, both phones support HDR10 content and have the minimal bezel.
Power and Operating System
Similarities here include the chipset which for both is an octa-core Kirin 970 together with four cores that run at 2.36GHz as well as four clocked at 1.8GHz.
Both devices also come equipped with an NPU (network processing unit), capable of using AI for improved performance and efficiency.
The differences come in with the RAM. The Mate 10 offers 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. The Mate 10 Pro comes in 2 variations, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage or 6GB of RAM paired with a 128GB storage. While the Pro device has more power and storage, it does not have a microSD slot like its smaller counterpart.
In terms of operating system, both devices run Android Oreo plus Emotion UI 8.0 from Huawei.
Both the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro feature the same 4,000mAh battery. It includes the smart battery management system for longer battery life. A 20-minute charge is also said to give the phones enough power to last an entire day.
Once again, there are no differences here. Both phones feature the same cameras which include a 12MP color dual-lens plus a 20MP monochrome camera on the back. These two lenses work together to deliver highly detailed images.
This camera offers optical image stabilization, f/1.6 aperture and an AI-powered object and scene recognition function which allows for automatic optimization of the settings of each shot. The front features an 8MP camera to capture your selfies.
Price and Availability
The Huawei Mate 10 will set you back around €699 and it will be available for purchase in late October 2017. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is set to be priced at €799 and you can get your hands on it from around mid-November 2017.
The vast majority of these two devices is very similar. The differences affect the price, screen resolution as well as internal storage capacity and RAM. The Mate 10 will feature a microSD slot, while the Pro offers water resistance.
