BlackBerry finally confirmed that the company’s Priv handsets will no longer receive any operating system update after Marshmallow. Launched in October 2015, BlackBerry Priv was originally packed up with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and was later updated to Android Marshmallow in April 2016.

The confirmation about the termination of update came from Alex Thurber, who is the General Manager of BlackBerry Mobility Solutions. Alex mentioned that the Priv already being updated to Marshmallow in 2016 will now require a lot of work and efforts to get all the partners together behind such an update which would be next to impossible.

However, Thurber also mentioned that Priv will keep receiving security updates and BlackBerry will continue to support Priv.

At last, Thurber detailed that the new operating system update i.e. Android 8.1 Oreo will hit KEYone smartphone by the end of this year.
