Android Creator Launches a Phone of His Own

There are certain names that will forever be linked to the history of mobile history as we know it. One of them is that of Andy Rubin, the co-creator of Android: the most popular mobile operating system available.

Rubin sold Android to Google in 2005 and in the eight years he remained in the company turned his small project into the most widely used mobile phone software in the world. Now he prepares to go one step further, to the hardware by launching his own devices.

Just two years after leaving Google, the creator of Android and its team of 40 people (mostly from Apple and Google: Rebecca Zavin, Joe Tate, Linda Jiang and Jason Keats) work on the device that will compete with the iPhone and the Pixel.

Andy Rubin created a software that powers hundreds of millions of Android devices worldwide. Now he has two devices of his own: The Essential Phone and the Essential Home.

Rubin launched the company Essential and presented its new products with which it seeks to innovate in the technology industry.

Although the image does not show much of the device, you can see that screen has virtually no borders and occupy the entire front. In addition, the clock, battery, and network symbols that are in the corner suggest that the smartphone is equipped with some version of Android, although at first it was said that Essential devices would come with a separate operating system.

Rubin recruited 40 engineers and designers from Apple and Google for their development. According to rumors, Essential’s first phone will be finished in premium metal and ceramic, and will be ready for the second half of this year with a price around $ 650.

The first Essential phone will be equipped with Android as stated from the Twitter account of Eric Schmidt, chief executive of Alphabet Inc. Now it remains to be seen whether this means that all phones of the brand will have Android, or if the plans to create Essential its own operating system still stand.

Essential Phone: Features

Essential Phone is a high-end smartphone equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. The screen has a special format more elongated with a diagonal of 5.7 inches.

Another attractive point is the magnetic connector that allows connecting modules. At first, a 360 ° camera and a charging system have been released, but there may be more.
